General rule

Add the letter e to the masculine singular form:

-un livre amusant(an amusing book)
-une histoire amusante(an amusing story)
-il est bronzé(he is tanned)
-elle est bronzée(she is tanned)

Adjective already ending in 'e'

These do not change

-mon père est malade(my father is ill)
-ma mère est malade(my mother is ill)

Others

When the e is added some spellings of the adjectives changes:

• The following masculine endings generally double the final consonant before adding e:

-un probléme actuel(a current problem)
-la vie actuelle(present/current life)
-un bon conseil(good advice)
-c'est une bonne recette(it's a good recipe)

But: the feminine ending of some common adjectives in et is ète instead of ette

• er to ère

• x to se

But:

• eur to esue

But: This rule applies only when the stem of the adjective is also the stem of a present participle (eg mentant, trompant). The following five adjective simply add an e to the feminine, eur becoming eure

The feminine ending of the remaining adjective in teur is trice

• f to ve

• c to che or que

• Five adjectives that have irregualar feminine form and two masculine forms, the second one is used before words starting with a vowel or a silent h:

-un beau lac(a beautiful lake)
-une belle vue(a beautiful view)
-un bel enfant(a beautiful child)
-un nouveau disque(a new record)
-la nouvelle année(th enew year)
-un nouvel ami(a new friend)
-un vieux tableau(an old painting)
-la vieelle ville(the old town)
-un vieil homme(an old man)
